Know-Nothings
ист. «ничего не знающие», члены партии, выступавшей против занятия общественных должностей иммигрантами или католиками. Партия (официальное назв. «Американская партия» [American Party]) пользовалась значительным влиянием в 1850-е гг., но раскололась по вопросу о рабовладении. Члены партии обязаны были сохранять в тайне её деятельность; обычный их ответ был «Ничего не знаю» [I know nothing]
